Basil is the king of Mediterranean cuisine, thanks to its unmistakable aroma: it is perfect for seasoning and decorating numerous dishes.
Basil leaves are used mostly fresh to flavour sauces, first and second courses, vegetable side dishes and salads, and for pesto, the typical sauce from Liguria made with crushed basil, garlic, Olive Oil, pine nuts and cheese.

This aromatic herb, however, also pairs very well with mint, with walnuts (they provide excellent seasoning for boiled green beans, for example), but also with aubergines and potatoes. Perhaps not everyone knows that you can also easily prepare an excellent digestive with this plant, basil liqueur, which can be enjoyed chilled at the end of a meal.
